This easy caramel recipe is absolutely amazing! It’s a homemade caramel recipe that you’ll make over and over again. I know because I’m doing it right now - and the best part? There's no heavy cream or butter in the recipe!

I choose to omit cream and butter because they're EXPENSIVE. A girl can only afford so much. I replaced the cream and butter with 2% cow's milk, but you can totally use nut milks or oat milk if you're allergic to dairy or lactose intolerant.
I also love to use it on vanilla ice cream! If I would have to choose another flavor combo other than peanut butter + chocolate, it would be salted caramel + vanilla. Please please please go and try salted caramel and vanilla ice cream! It's so darn good.

Ingredients For Salted Caramel
Granulated Sugar — This one is kind of obvious because caramel is mostly sugar, so I don't think I need to go into the details (but for those that don't know caramel is created by melting sugar 😉).
Milk — Replaces the milk and butter and is the main liquid ingredient.
Salt — Balances the sweetness and brings out the nutty, buttery notes of the caramel.

Tips for the best salted caramel:
Don't walk away when you're heating the sugar. It can easily burn and you'll have to start over again.
Don't skip warming to the milk. It's an extra step, but it prevent the cold milk from solidifying the sugar when you pour them together. If the sugar does solidify, you can keep heating it until it turns liquid again.
